Karen Kimani
One Child. One Idea. A World Of Possibilities.
In 2018, Karen stepped onto the Little Miss & Mr Kenya Festival stage wearing an outfit she had created from recycled carrier bags.
She wasn’t trying to become famous.
She simply wanted people to see waste differently.
Her creativity earned her the opportunity to represent Kenya at the Little Miss & Little Mr United World Competition in Tenerife, Spain.
There, Karen designed another remarkable eco-fashion creation using recycled plastic bottles and drinking straws and performed an environmental monologue that challenged audiences to rethink plastic pollution.
Her presentation received the Gold Eco Award.
But something even more important happened during that journey.
While staying at the host hotel in Spain, Karen discovered a professionally managed waste segregation and recycling system. Recognising her curiosity, the hotel manager personally took her on a behind-the-scenes tour, explaining how waste was sorted, recycled and responsibly managed.
That experience opened a new door.
Karen returned home carrying more than an international award.
She returned with a bigger vision of what environmental responsibility could look like.
From that moment, her passion continued to grow.
She mobilised communities, established environmental projects, nurtured young environmental leaders, represented Kenya at global climate forums, became the youngest delegate in history to attend the United Nations Climate Conference (COP27), and in 2023 planted a commemorative tree alongside His Majesty King Charles III during his State Visit to Kenya.
Today, Karen continues inspiring children across Kenya to believe that age is never a barrier to leadership.
